Oryx Global Partners appoints veteran resources investor and two distinguished Senior Advisors to its team

London, Abu Dhabi, 12 November 2024 – Oryx Global Partners (‘Oryx’), the investment firm dedicated to facilitating the energy transition and securing supply chains through strategic investments in the minerals value chain, today announces it has appointed Richard Davis as an Operations Partner, and Bob Finch and Manuel Stotz as Senior Advisors, strengthening its senior team in London and Abu Dhabi.

Highlights:

  • Richard is a veteran resources investor with over 30 years’ experience, recently as Head of Commodities at Qatar Investment Authority, and previously as Managing Director and Fund Manager at BlackRock. He will work alongside the Oryx team in investment selection and execution, while also supporting the oversight and management of Oryx’s portfolio companies to drive implementation of the firm’s value-add strategy in operations.. 
  • Bob Finch is an energy & resources industry veteran, with over 40 years’ experience in commodity trading and investments, having served at Vitol as the Head of Trading and a Board Member.
  • Manuel Stotz is a leading frontier markets investment manager, as the founder and CEO of Kingsway Capital.
  • Bob and Manuel will provide strategic advice regarding investment strategy, the evolution of supply chains, and the role of developing markets. 
  • Their appointments further bolster Oryx’s senior leadership team and its extensive natural resources investment experience. 

Richard Davis

Richard began his career as a geologist in the early 1990s before moving into fund management. He spent nineteen years at BlackRock where he was a Managing Director and ran the BlackRock Commodities Income investment trust. In 2014, he joined the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) in Doha to set-up and lead the Commodities Department and run one of the world’s largest commodity equity portfolios. 

Richard holds a BA degree in Natural Sciences (Geology) from Trinity College, Dublin, and an MSc in Mineral Exploration from the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College, London. He is also a holder of the Investment Management Certificate.

Bob Finch

Bob is an energy & resources industry veteran, having spent 35 years at Vitol where he was Head of Trading and a Board Member for over 15 years. He was instrumental in aiding Vitol’s growth to become the largest independent energy trader in the world. Bob also co-founded Talis Capital, which invests in early-stage technology companies in the UK, US and Europe. Together with his wife Rohini, Bob also set up the Generations Foundation that supports charities both at home and abroad

Manuel Stotz

Manuel Stotz has twenty years’ experience in funds management and is the founder and CEO of Kingsway Capital, an asset manager specialising in frontier markets. Prior to that, he was a Partner and Fund Manager at THS Partners, the UK-based global equity investment firm acquired by Swiss fund manager GAM in 2016. He started his career at Goldman Sachs Investment Partners (GSIP).
