Oryx Global Partners announces new team additions; Michael Ho joins as Partner and Deepak Malik joins as Senior Advisor

London, Abu Dhabi, 3 April 2025 – Oryx Global Partners (‘Oryx’), the investment firm dedicated to facilitating the energy transition and securing supply chains through strategic investments in the minerals value chain, is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Ho as Partner and Deepak Malik as Senior Advisor.

Highlights:  
  • Michael is a respected executive in the investment management industry, having held C-suite and Global Head roles at leading global investment managers including UBS Asset Management, Janus Henderson, State Street Global Advisors, and Mellon Capital Management.
  • Michael has also served on Oryx’s Advisory Board since its inception, where he helped guide the development of the strategy and governance frameworks of the firm. In his capacity as Partner, Michael will provide strategic guidance and oversight on internal operations, governance, and organizational development. 
  • Deepak has decades of experience in establishing and leading investment managers and financial institutions, with extensive experience in development finance institutions. Deepak will support Oryx through its establishment and enhance its capabilities when investing in emerging markets. 
Michael Ho

Michael joins Oryx as a Partner, providing strategic oversight on group operations. He has over 30 years of experience in investment management and strategic advisory roles, having held C-suite and Global Head roles at leading global investment managers including UBS Asset Management, Janus Henderson, State Street Global Advisors, and Mellon Capital Management. He has successfully led multi-billion-dollar investment teams to define and operate investment strategies that delivered above market returns. 

Over the past year, Michael has served on the Advisory Board of Oryx Global Partners, providing guidance on investment strategy, team construction, governance, structuring and manager licensing. Having seen the successful development of the firm and positive reception by the market, Michael will continue as a Partner, focusing on providing leadership in internal operations. Given his deep knowledge of Oryx and his familiarity with the tools and strategies required for success in investment management, Michael is well-placed to support Oryx in its pioneering approach to the sector. 

He holds a PhD in Management Science Engineering from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from UCLA . 

Deepak Malik 

Deepak joins Oryx as a Senior Advisor. He has extensive senior executive experience spanning investment management and natural resources. He previously served as CEO of Arise B.V, a leading investor in the Sub-Saharan African financial services sector. Before that, he spent 13 years at Norfund, a development finance institution, where he was Head of Southern Africa and Head of Financial Institutions. Deepak has also previously served as the Regional Representative for the Danish Government’s Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), acted as Managing Director at Development Bank of Zambia, and held senior management roles at Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines. 

He currently serves as a board member on the boards of Ecobank, Zambia National Commercial Bank, and Grindrod, and is an investment committee member at South Suez Capital. 

Deepak is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, India, and holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce (Honours) from the University of Delhi, India.
